About this client/child: Adam (11) and Steven (5) live with their mum and dad in a charming part of North London. Steven attends a local primary school full-time, while Adam is home educated. A passionate and skilled gamer, Adam currently enjoys playing on his PC. He also loves watching TV and has a growing interest in biology. Adam receives daily support from a tutor and a Buddy/Personal Assistant who spends a few hours with him each evening. He also has a boxing coach visit twice a week. He has diagnoses of autism, anxiety, depression, Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA), and Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA). He finds loud noises, certain foods, leaving the house, crowded environments, and unexpected changes to his routine particularly challenging. Steven is a lively, chatty child with a zest for being out and about. Outside of school, he loves exploring parks, visiting soft play centres, and going swimming. He has recently been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and shows traits of ADHD; Steven needs support to use the toilet independently.

Overview of role: We are seeking an experienced and confident SEN Nanny/Manny to join Adam’s supportive and caring team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in working with young people with autism, who also experience anxiety, and a genuine interest in gaming—a key shared interest with Adam. The core focus of this role is to build a trusting, co-regulatory relationship with Adam. He can become overwhelmed at times, which may lead to emotional dysregulation—such as crying or seeking solitude around the house. A calm, consistent presence is essential to help him navigate these moments with reassurance and care. While Adam is engaged with his tutor during the day, the SEN Nanny/Manny will assist with family PA duties. These may include managing paperwork related to Adam’s EHCP, collecting his prescriptions, preparing lunch, and handling light, childcare-related domestic tasks. After his studies, Adam enjoys relaxing through video games, chatting, and watching TV with his Nanny/Manny. Over time, and at his own pace, there’s hope that he will feel confident enough to begin exploring outings in the community—though this must be approached gently, as transitions and unfamiliar demands can be dysregulating for him. While Adam’s support will be the primary focus, there may occasionally be times when the role includes collecting Steven from school or taking him out for an activity. As Adam and Steven can sometimes dysregulate each other, these moments will be managed thoughtfully. This is a collaborative household: the family also employs a full-time Nanny/Housekeeper, and a team-oriented mindset is essential for this position.

Who this job would suit: This role is ideal for an experienced professional with expertise in anxiety reduction and co-regulation. A background in psychology would be beneficial, particularly for someone seeking a long-term opportunity to support children with additional needs.

What’s great about this job: This job presents a meaningful, long-term opportunity to support Adam and contribute to a dedicated team focused on his continued development. It’s a rewarding position where your skills and experience can make a real difference in this child’s life.
