Greater Manchester Marathon

Claire Lomas Greater Manchester Marathon
Claire Lomas was paralysed in 2007 in a horse riding accident, but that hasn't stopped her from competing in some amazing events - most recently she completed the Greater Manchester Marathon wearing an exoskeleton to raise awareness and funds for the Nicholls Spinal Injury Foundation.

A remarkable achievement from a remarkable woman.

Sam Renke Guest Blog: Don’t Take No For An Answer!

An excellent blog on securing Direct Payment from actress and disability campaigner Sam Renke

They say that ‘Those that shout the loudest, get heard first, but it’s the ones that speak softly to the heart, that get remembered’. It pays to be kind and to be sincere towards others and shouting will usually get us to the back of the waiting list or conveniently ‘forgotten’. Sometimes though making a good old fuss actually pays off!

The Care Act in a Nutshell

By Kelly Knight, solicitor at Hyphen Law

In 2015, the Care Act came into effect representing the biggest overhaul of the social care system in nearly 70 years. It made sweeping changes to adult social care in England and it was anticipated that it would have a huge impact on individuals, carers, local authorities, health and social care providers to name a few.

The Care Act was a huge step forward for both those requiring care and those providing care. It now means that millions of carers could get additional help, such as respite care or direct payments, putting them for the very first time, on an equal footing with those they care for.
