Chloe is a charming, friendly and extremely affectionate 17 year old who loves going to the theatre, listening to music, comics, push-button toys and spending time with grown-ups. Chloe has a chromosome abnormality, global developmental delay, a slight curvature of the spine, for which she wears a brace and a mild kidney disorder. She is very small for her age and is non-verbal. She communicates mainly by gesture.  She can walk, but cannot manage long distances, so a wheelchair is used outside the house. Chloe does have epilepsy but this is managed well with medication. There have been no seizures in the last 9 years. She can feed herself, but needs help. Chloe has no sense of danger so needs to be watched on stairs and when out. Chloe will need support with all of her personal care needs.

Your main role as will be to support Chloe after school, keep her engaged with activities and help out with the evening routine. This will include a bit of tidying for Chloe, removing her back brace and going somewhere like the park, shops or library for an hour or two. After this there will be time to bath, feed and toilet her and get her dressed for bed. On Monday evenings Chloe goes swimming which you will accompany her to.  During the holidays there will be more time to spend out and arrange activities such as parks, soft play, theatre or cinema. Dad is extremely hands-on and able to give advice where you may need it. He is a single parent and mainly works from home in an office at the top of the house.

This job will suit someone who has a vibrant and creative personality as you will be required to come up with new and fun activities. You must also be patient and ensure you give Chloe time to respond. Chloe responds really well to encouragement and routine but can become easily distracted. Part of the role will involve preparing food so we are looking for a SEN Carer who can cook competently and understand food hygiene. *This position is suitable for female candidates only.

This is a great opportunity to continue to encourage Chloe’s verbal, social and educational development and in turn build her independence and life skills, especially toileting, which is improving slowly. The family do require all candidates to be OFSTED registered or someone who is willing to go through this process (all costs will be covered by the family).  For more information please contact Rachael who has met with this friendly family known to Snap for many years.

*Gender is considered to be a genuine occupational requirement in accordance with paragraph 1 of Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010 for a female worker to work with our client.
