James 21 has quadriplegic cerebral palsy with dystonia and is dependent on others for all his needs. James is a bright young man with a huge passion for life. He enjoys being out and about, swimming, music podcasts, museums, movies and travelling. James is non-verbal but uses both low tech and computer-based communication aids. All his medication and fluids are administered via PEG.
As a waking night carer, your role will be to monitor James throughout the night to ensure he is safe and comfortable. The role will involve assistance with all aspects of the night routine; you must be confident in manual handling, providing personal care and administering medication. During this time, you’ll keep occupied to be alert and of course awake.
This job will suit a motivated, proactive candidate with plenty of common sense who has strong experience supporting a young client with a disability and understands the importance of promoting independence. You must remain calm and confident and be able to work through stressful moments when James suffers from intense dystonic spasm. You will be supported by James’s family and dedicated team, you must be a team player and be comfortable working alongside them. You’ll need to be flexible and the role will include travel abroad.
