£16.00 gross per hour + weekly travelcard. Proactive and energetic Part time Support Worker/Buddy for John, 11, who is autistic

 

 

 

 

Title:  Support worker/Buddy| Hampstead, Stoke Newington
Location: Hampstead and Stoke Newington
Nearest Train Station: Rectory road
Wage: £16.00 gross per hour, weekly travelcard
Driver required? Not required
Essential: Experience supporting children with autism and challenging behaviour
Start Date: ASAP
Days & Hours: Hampstead: Tuesday, Wednesday 4.00pm – 8.00pm Stoke Newington: Alternate Saturdays 12.00pm – 6.00pm.

John is a charming and charismatic 11-year-old. He loves going for walks and to the park, watching trains, jumping on the trampoline and going on his trike.

John is autistic and has processing sensory disorder. He has limited verbal communication and uses gestures. John requires support with his daily activities and social skills. Although John is normally happy and affectionate, when frustrated he can present with challenging behaviour: he can be unsettled by changes in his routine and needs to be informed about changes in advance. You’ll need be fit, strong and vigilant to ensure John's safety, especially when outside.

John attends a specialist school and is making great progress out and about in the community. You will support John during his after-school routine; assisting with personal care, having dinner, playing and/or going out for a walk and accessing activities. During the school holidays you will organise fun activities and outings. John’s parents live separately and you will support him in both homes.

You will need extensive experience with children or young adults with Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC) and communication difficulties. The main goal is to help John take part in everyday life and improve his social and communication skills.  

This exciting position will suit a confident, energetic and calm support worker who will support John to reach his full potential.
