Our client Jim is a 15-year-old who sustained an acquired brain injury following a stroke 3 years ago. He is a bright and extremely determined young chap who has worked tirelessly on his rehabilitation and has made excellent progress. Jim loves spending time with his friends and has a great sense of humour. He’s also an avid reader, gamer and enjoys going to the theatre and cinema.
Jim’s ABI has mostly impacted upon his physical skills and his speech. He is a wheelchair user however with support he can walk for short distances. Although Jim has a speech impairment, in general, he communicates verbally very well with people he knows and feels comfortable with. However, he uses AAC communication in the classroom and occasionally at other times, although he’s gaining more confidence every day with his spoken language.
Due to Jim’s ABI he can experience physical and cognitive fatigue, especially after the school day, therefore encouragement, motivation and practical support required with homework support, etc. Close supervision is required whenever Jim is eating or drinking as he has swallowing difficulties.
Jim lives at home with his Mum, Dad and older brother (heading off to Uni this year) and requires a Support Worker / PA who can provide emotional and practical support before and after school with self-help skills, homework support and therapy, as well as a limited amount of personal care. Jim attends a mainstream school where he is supported by a TA and is starting his GCSE courses in September – this is a very important year for him!
If you’ve previously worked with teenagers and/or young adults, have knowledge of ABI and would thoroughly enjoy supporting Jim then please apply today with your updated CV and Jade from Snap will be in touch to discuss the next steps.
Please note, whilst Snap endeavour to reply to all applications, some of our positions are so popular this is not possible and only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
