- Driving Requirements: Yes – driving Oscar’s adapted vehicle out in the community (manual)
- Essential: Genuine interest in supporting a young adult with additional needs. Able to work at least two Saturdays or Sundays a month
- Desirable: Prior experience supporting a young adult with a physical disability is advantageous

- Approximately 28 hours per week on average. This role offers flexibility, and alternative shift patterns can be considered to suit the right candidate. Additional night shifts might be required when needed)

About the Client/Child Oscar, aged 22, is a bright, engaging and determined young man with a wide range of interests. Prior to recent changes in his health, he enjoyed cycling, languages (with a particular passion for French), playing the piano, reading, and socialising with friends. Oscar has cerebral palsy and relies on full support for his daily needs. He is a wheelchair user and non-verbal. Following recent spinal surgery at C3 level, Oscar currently has very limited movement from the neck down. As a result, his care needs have increased significantly, and his communication is transitioning to the use of head switches. It is still early days in his recovery, and while the long-term outcome remains uncertain, Oscar and his family remain hopeful that he will regain some abilities over time. He is cognitively very aware and continues to engage with those around him. With the right support, there may be opportunities for him to return to some of the activities he enjoys, such as horse riding (with specialist support) and swimming, as his recovery progresses. Oscar has a PEG in place for nutritional support when required and is supported by a dedicated, multi-disciplinary team. This is a period of significant change and adjustment for both Oscar and his family.
The Role at a Glance As Oscar’s Support Worker, you will play a key role in supporting him through this important stage of recovery and adjustment. Your role will involve providing full personal care, supporting his evolving communication needs, and ensuring he remains comfortable, engaged, and supported throughout his day. Oscar will currently be more passively involved, so your role will focus on facilitating meaningful interaction, promoting wellbeing, and supporting any activities in a way that is appropriate to his current abilities. You will work 1:1 with Oscar within the family home (where family members may be present), and at times alongside another Support Worker for outings, holidays, and when additional support is required. There is the option to work an additional Saturday each month, and further hours. Full training in all areas of Oscar’s care, including his updated clinical and communication needs, will be provided, along with ongoing support from the Team Leader and Oscar’s parents. The hourly rate offered is £16.00 on weekdays and £18.00 gross per hour on weekends. Following a successful six-month period in the role, the rate will increase to £17.00 on weekdays and £19.00 on weekends.
