About this client:
Lucy is 24 years old, works as a journalist and enjoys socialising with her friends at home or at the pub and is very independent. Lucy has cerebral palsy and needs assistance to support her physically. Lucy is verbal but it can take time to ‘tune into’ her speech. Lucy lives in her own flat with full-time support. Lucy doesn’t need someone to ‘look after her’, but someone who is there when needed who will enable her to live her life as she wants to, as independently and fully as possible.
Overview of role:
Each weekend will be different according to what Lucy has planned or what comes up. This may be going out and about, staying at home, going away for the weekend or accompanying Lucy to work. At her workplace, you’ll have lots of free time so you’ll need something to occupy your own time, for example studying. You will be Lucy’s arms and legs, doing the things Lucy physically can’t do and this includes domestic tasks, making sure the flat is clean and tidy, washing put on, shopping, etc. Lucy needs support to help her to the toilet, sometimes this includes during the night, but often you will have a night of uninterrupted sleep.
Who this job would suit:
This is a PA / Enabler position for a *female. Someone who can ’go with the flow’, be confident and enjoy socialising with Lucy and her friends. You’ll need to flexible; Lucy wants to live her life just as any 24 year old would, and be spontaneous. You’ll be comfortable to accept Lucy knows her own capabilities and doesn’t need to be told what might be best for her. You’ll be emotionally resilient, have the sensitivity to know when to give Lucy her privacy, and to get on with tasks without being asked. Lucy’s life can be quite full-on (with lots of fun times!), so you’ll need to be able to keep up!
What’s great about this job:
Snap has known Lucy for many years and you’ll have the opportunity to work with a great team and support a remarkable young woman to live her life to the full.
