About the Client/Child Ethan (3.5) is a bright, inquisitive child with a love of nature and exploration. He adores messy and water play, and spending time in the forest. He can focus for long periods with 1:1 activities with an adult, particularly around his favourite books; currently Gruffalo Child. He has strong fixated interests at different times, including snow, the Grinch, the North Pole, microbes, and snakes. He loves animals, the natural world and is trilingual, speaking and understanding English, Russian, and Ukrainian equally. Ethan has Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and requires 1:1 support to engage safely in activities and develop his social interaction skills. He can display behaviours that challenge due to sensory/emotional overwhelm and can have difficulties with transitions or changes in routine. Ethan is also asthmatic so will occasionally require his inhaler. The role is long-term and focuses on structured, creative activities to support his social development while ensuring his safety and wellbeing.

The Role at a Glance As Ethan’s SEN Nanny/Manny, you will provide 1:1, tailored support to create a positive, nurturing environment that supports his emotional regulation, communication, and social development. Using a child-led, educator-informed approach, you’ll support daily routines and help Ethan express emotions, make requests, and build life skills. The role is active and varied, involving soft play, playground visits, forest school, outdoor exploration, and structured, development-focused activities. This is an ideal role for someone creative, outdoorsy, and motivated to help Ethan build confidence and develop his skills in a calm, encouraging way.

This Job Would Suit This role would suit someone who is confident, proactive, and hands-on, with a good understanding of child development, particularly Autism in preschool-aged children. The ideal candidate is patient, warm yet consistent with boundaries, motivated, and aware of SEN needs. They should be able to support positive choices, follow a child-led approach, and bring the right skills to engage and motivate Ethan. Experience can come from either professional or personal settings, and a genuine interest in developing skills further is welcomed. Must be happy around pets.

Why You’ll Love This Role You’ll be joining a welcoming family and supporting Ethan, a child with many interesting layers and a vibrant personality. Mum is a qualified clinical psychologist and is happy to provide additional training on emotional regulation in autistic children, therapeutic interventions, and behavioural strategies. She is also running workshops designed to support parents, which she is happy to offer as a complimentary learning opportunity — potentially extending to close family friends where appropriate.
