About this client/child: Max, nearly 7, is a very active, bright young boy, who lives at home with his Mum and Dad. Max loves swimming, being outside and playing football and trampolining (Santa may have a special gift this year!). He enjoys watching Disney movies on his iPad, building homemade forts and camps, and all genres of music. He is very tactile loves cuddles with his Mum and Dad and family time. Max has a diagnosis of Autism, Hypermobility, Hypertonia and is pre-verbal. He needs full support with his social, emotional and language development, and personal care. While improved recently, Max can display behaviour that challenges that may include pinching, biting and kicking, and sensory seeking behaviours. He can use a Picture Exchange Communication system (PECs) to ask for something he wants. Max requires reassurance, prompting, supervision and guidance with activities, social relationships, language development, and with his emotional and behavioural needs. He can find transitions tricky especially if he is absorbed in an activity. Max does not currently attend school, except for one afternoon a week at a forest school. He enjoys visiting a therapist 3 afternoons a week, who works on behaviour strategies (ABA-based) and speech and language/communication skills.
Overview of role: Max is currently unable to attend school and is awaiting an SEN school placement, which is not expected to be available until September 2026 and will therefore be the minimum length of this role. He follows a structured weekly routine including forest school on Monday afternoons, ABA-based therapy sessions on Tuesday to Thursday afternoons, and play-based activities on Fridays. The primary focus of the SEN Nanny or Manny is to build a trusting relationship with Max and consistently implement strategies to help him manage behaviours that may challenge, supporting emotional regulation, communication and daily transitions. Max is still in nappies, so help supporting his toilet training will also be part of the role. Strong experience using PECS and embedding therapeutic approaches into everyday routines in a calm, engaging and consistent way is essential. The role is an active one and involves plenty of outdoor activities. Light domestic duties related to Max are included, as well as meal preparation. Consistency, structure and close collaboration with the family are key to supporting positive behavioural and communication progress.
Who this job would suit: This role would suit an experienced, energetic and fun SEN Nanny or Manny with proven experience supporting young children with Autism Spectrum Conditions who are pre-verbal and have behavioural support needs. You will be emotionally robust, enjoy being outdoors, and have a strong track record of implementing effective strategies to support behaviours that may challenge and to promote language development. A shared interest in music and football would be highly beneficial.
What’s great about this job: This is a wonderful opportunity to support the whole family and grow a trusting and long-lasting bond with Max to continue his ongoing development.
