Family Pets: Black Labrador

James is a cheeky and sporty 10 year old who loves football, tennis and is very proud of his Pokémon card collection. Evie, aged 15, is completing her GCSE year at the moment. She enjoys being around animals, particularly horses and loves music, drama and make-up. Both children have significant emotional and behavioural difficulties and present with challenging behaviour. Some issues around self-identity have arisen, so being able to help build their self-esteem is important.

James and Evie have received behavioral therapy over the last year and huge improvements have been made. The family are keen for this to continue and would like the support worker to implement some of these strategies and focus on behaviour management. You should be skilled in establishing boundaries and encouraging positive behaviour in the children, for example encouraging them to do their chores and take care of their own belongings. The key to this position will be to build trusting relationships and to help unlock the children’s potential, promote their independence and help establish positive relationships.

Duties include organising and accompanying the children to extra-curricular activities and helping with homework. The support worker will liaise with other professionals who work with the children and also take sole charge for long weekends two to three times a year when the parents are away.

This is a very interesting position which will suit someone who can hit the ground running. You should be a compassionate, spirited and emotionally resilient person ready to guide these lovely children through their teenage years.

*Gender is considered to be a genuine occupational requirement in accordance with paragraph 1 of Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010 for a female worker to work with our client.
