About the Client/Child: Nancy, 4 is a vibrant, healthy, and bright little girl with an inquisitive and talkative nature. She has advanced vocabulary for her age and is full of energy. Nancy enjoys a variety of activities, playing in the park, swimming, soft play, singing along to songs and imaginative play and attending school. Her mother, Catherine, is a highly intelligent young woman who has ASC. After a traumatic experience, Catherine has made significant progress in addressing some related mental health challenges, but the event impacted on her confidence. Catherine is a dedicated mother who enjoys spending time with Nancy, but she sometimes needs gentle reminders and guidance to ensure her daughter’s routine is followed. Catherine can experience moments of stress and anxiety, during which she may become dysregulated or inattentive, and her behaviour may be unpredictable. Due to her ASC diagnosis, Catherine can be rigid in her ideas/thinking, which can be challenging with a toddler. Her parents and younger sister live nearby and are actively involved in both her and Nancy's lives.
The Role at a Glance: The Nanny/Family Support Worker will work alongside Catherine, being her companion, providing emotional support and helping her to be a great mother and fostering a healthy, happy home for both her and Nancy. This role involves some gentle ‘mothering’ of both Catherine and Nancy, ensuring that the household runs smoothly and that both are supported with warmth and structure. You will ‘own’ the environment and step in when needed, particularly if Catherine is unable to manage some of the day-to-day basics. You’ll help Catherine to shape the next stage of her life beyond motherhood and recovery; encouraging and enabling her to take part in fun activities and exercise such as swimming, volunteering, and even some work. You’ll engage and play with Nancy, but not take over her care, knowing when to step in, or step back. A cleaner attends for 4 hours every other week; however, you’ll ensure the home stays clean and tidy between visits, stepping in when needed to maintain a safe and hygienic environment. There is ample downtime while Nancy is at school, when Catherine can be left alone for short periods. This may increase if Catherine secures work, making the role ideal for someone who values free time during the day, perhaps for study or personal interests. No overnight care is required, but Catherine needs the presence of an adult in the home at night. This is a job share role, with shifts of either 5 days on/off, or 7 days on/off. An existing team member works some weekends.
This Job Would Suit: A mature, patient, calm, reflective, kind, nurturing, non-judgmental and empathetic *female looking for a long-term commitment. Someone with good autism and nannying/childcare experience. You’ll be psychologically astute and be able to grasp the complexity of Catherine’s situation and her relationship with her daughter. You’ll enjoy helping to maintain a warm, nurturing environment for Catherine and Nancy.
Why You’ll Love This Role: You’ll have the chance to work with a wonderful family, well known to Snap Care for many years, in one of London’s most desirable locations. You’ll play a key role in helping Catherine regain her confidence and independence, enabling her to be the best mum she can be to Nancy and enjoy fun and purposeful activities.
