Archie is a bright and emotionally very articulate and sensitive 14 year old who has been diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1), ADHD and only recently with non-intelligence impaired Autism (akin to Aspergers).

Archie and his family have been through a very tough year. Last Christmas he suffered a major breakdown and has been battling bulimia, depression, anxiety and has had episodes of self-harming.

Since then, Archie has come a long way - he is slowly transitioning back to school (2 days per week, homeschooling 2 days per week) but he is still very fragile and needs lots of support. Archie is a talented artist, he likes gaming, his two cats and has a good sense of humour. He suffers from self-loathing and needs lots of encouragement and confidence boosting.

We are seeking a positive, kind and intuitive Mentor / Buddy who has experience supporting young clients with Aspergers,  an eating disorder and anxiety. Your role would be to support Archie through the day, accompany him to school or therapy, encourage him to engage in activities and help him to manage his anxiety and panic attacks. You will need to be sensitive and know when to step back and give Archie space and equally when you are required to take charge and engage with him. Above all, you will be helping Archie to find a way to not only survive but thrive in the world.

This position would suit a young, proactive and understanding candidate who has a genuine interest supporting children with mental health issues and making a positive difference to their life. We are particularly keen to hear from candidates with background in Psychology, and Autism, who can relate to Archie, build a trusting relationship with him and support him on his way to recovery.

*Gender is considered to be a genuine occupational requirement in accordance with paragraph 1 of Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010 for a male worker to work with our client.
