About the Client Great opportunity to be part of an on-going rehab journey supporting our client ‘Ben’ (47), an incredibly bright and intelligent man. In his own words, our client would like you to know: “I used to live on a boat in Brighton, working at the hospital and training to be a nurse. I went about on a bike and kept fit playing hockey. When I was younger, I was an international sportsman. I have good friends and family. I am interested in the world and current affairs. I enjoy word play, crosswords, quizzes, comedy, films, music, both recorded and live. I am looking for support workers that are fun but clever.” Ben was involved in a RTA which caused him to sustain a traumatic brain injury (TBI) and orthopedic injuries. Ben is a full time wheelchair user and all transfers are assisted stands, experience of this is preferred but training is given. Ben will require help with all personal care. Ben can communicate verbally but sometimes chooses not to; this will all depend on the rapport that is built.
The Role at a Glance We are looking for 2–3 Support Workers to join a friendly, collaborative team providing thoughtful, creative and person-centred support. The focus is always on ensuring Ben remains at the heart of every decision—what he does, how he does it, and how he is supported day to day. Ben is not someone who enjoys being stuck indoors, so you can expect an active and varied schedule. A typical day may include community outings, gym sessions, meeting friends, shopping trips, lunch out, or day trips further afield to places such as Brighton or museums in London. When at home, Ben enjoys crosswords, word games, and other mentally stimulating activities.
This Job Would Suit This role would suit a bubbly and engaging individual. The ideal candidate will be intellectually curious, with an interest in conversation, word games, puzzles, quizzes, and current affairs, able to engage with Ben’s sharp wit and lively personality. You will need to be emotionally mature, able to provide consistent, sensitive, and respectful support to someone with a brain injury. Creativity and proactivity are important, with the confidence to plan meaningful days, suggest new activities, and adapt to Ben’s interests. Experience supporting mobility needs, including wheelchair use, is valuable, as is the ability to work collaboratively with a small team of support workers. While previous experience in brain injury, neurorehabilitation or complex care is highly advantageous, the role is equally suited to someone with the right attitude, resilience, and willingness to learn.
Why You’ll Love This Role You will be joining a well-established team which is led by a Neuropsychologist, with regular training and input from Neuro Physiotherapist, Speech and Language Therapist and Occupational Therapist. This will be a fun and rewarding role with lots of daily activities.
