Selena is 10. She is fun and friendly and likes to swim, go horse riding and get active in the park and in the garden and imaginative play. Selena lives with her mum in Hitchin. Her Dad lives nearby and she sees him regularly. Selena had a brain injury at birth and requires support with communication, education and her daily routines. She has an electronic communication aid and uses Makaton.
Selena is looking for someone who is fit and enjoys physical activity to support her after school with therapy, play and to take her swimming, horse riding, to the park and to soft play. Selena has little safety awareness, and her new support worker will be vigilant and safety conscious. As well as supporting Selena to have fun you will support her through therapies and assist with the bedtime routine.
This job will suit someone with experience and an interest in speech and language therapy. Selena has only a few words and uses a VOCA speech device. An excellent command of the English language is essential. As well as providing therapeutic support, you’ll support Selena to manage her behaviour, which at times can be challenging.
This role offers you the opportunity to work closely with this fantastic, fun and bubbly young lady and assist her to engage in her therapies and reach her full potential. You will be given the opportunity to learn from Selena’s team of therapists as well as receiving regular supervision from a Case Manager.
