About this client/child: Snap Care has the pleasure of working with Felix, an engaging, cheeky and creative 8-year-old with a love for soft play, water activities, construction toys and sensory play. Felix has two young siblings, whom he adores. However, support is required to provide structured interaction to ensure that Felix remains regulated during interaction. Felix is diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, Epilepsy, a Developmental Delay, and Learning Difficulties. He can walk independently but uses his wheelchair for longer distances to help manage his energy and/or fatigue levels. He also requires orthotics and specialist footwear. His seizures are controlled by daily medication. However, there is emergency medication on site which he occasionally requires. Felix uses gestures, Makaton, and picture references to support his communication. He can verbalise some words. At times Felix may need behavioural support with regulation, de-escalation, transitions and has a Positive Behaviour Support Plan (PBS) in place.

Overview of role: A typical night will start with either a handover from a team member or parent. Felix thrives on routine. However, struggles with transitions and bedtime can be a tricky part of the day. Felix and his team are working alongside therapists establishing a care plan and routine for bedtime, to support Felix with this transition, and encourage good sleep hygiene so he is well rested.  Training is provided for the Waking Night Carer joining the team. Once Felix is settled and asleep, he will require close monitoring due to his epilepsy, and / or support to sooth him back to sleep or assistance with personal care. There is a video monitor you must watch closely and that will alert you if Felix requires support. The morning routine can start as early as 6.30am, the waking night carer will assist Felix with getting ready for school etc. This role offers 2 set night per week, any two nights from Sunday through to Thursday. Please get in touch with your availability.

Who this job would suit: A confident, engaging, calm and proactive Waking Night Carer with excellent communication skills. Someone keen to learn new skills and enjoy working in collaboration with other SEN and Therapy professionals. The Waking Night Carer will be intuitive, dedicated, respectful and it is highly desirable that you have experience working within a family home.

What’s great about this job: Ongoing training, supervision and support is provided by Felix’s case manager. This is an employed role, and comes with all the benefits, along with competitive pay rates, and flexibility to work around your work / life commitments. Felix and his family are very welcoming, supportive and recognise the importance of their son’s care team’s input.
