About the Client: Meet Sophia, 12 years old and truly the star of the show! She’s a very special young girl who lives with her mum, and older brother, whom she absolutely adores. Sophia thrives on upbeat, funny interactions; slapstick humour has her in hysterics, and singing songs related to everyday activities like brushing her hair or teeth brings her real joy. One of Sophia’s favourite things is messy play, whether it’s slime, foam, or water, the messier the better! She also enjoys quieter moments, especially watching one of her top five all-time favourite films. Sophia is a wheelchair user and loves going on buses and trains for appointments or short trips out and about. She sustained an Acquired Brain Injury at birth, which presents as Cerebral Palsy, global developmental delay, and epilepsy. She is non-verbal and receives all feeds and medication via her PEG. Sophia communicates in her own unique way. If asked the right questions, she will look at you for “yes” and look away for “no.” Her signs of discomfort or sadness can be subtle, but as her support team builds trust and connection with her, these cues become easier to recognise. She is also beginning to use an Eye Gaze device to support her communication.
