Essential: Physical disability, ( training given for tube feeding).
Start Date: September
Days & Hours: Approximately 2 weekends month and hours of work to be mutually agreed. Family can be very flexible and up to 55 hours in the school holidays. The family are seeking an arrangement which has mutually beneficial flexibility as needed by both the Buddy /or the family
Ronan 18 is a fantastic, communicative, loving and adventurous young man. Ronan has complex physical needs; he has cerebral palsy, epilepsy, is registered blind and is fed and medicated via a J peg. Ronan is non-verbal but communicates using a communication book and a VOCA and can make his needs known.
This role will not only include planning activities, trips and days out with Ronan and his family, but also caring for Ronan and ensuring he is safe, healthy and of course happy! You will assist with all his personal care, medicating, feeding, physiotherapy and keeping areas he uses clean and tidy.
This role will suit someone who has prior experience with supporting a young man with physical disabilities but just as important, someone who is happy, confident, caring and capable.
There will be the opportunity to travel with the family during the summer months; they have just booked 10 days in Barbados and long term, just being a part of this young man’s ongoing development will be a privilege. I have met this family many times and each time Ronan impresses me more, with his determination and wit!
