About this client/child:
Jack aged 17 is a sociable young man who loves people and listening to music, especially nursery rhymes. He has severe learning difficulties and his cognition is very low. He has no major health or behavioural issues. Jack is mobile within the house, but needs support going up and down stairs and a wheelchair is used when out and about. The family have a foldable wheelchair which dismantles to fit in most cars, even small cars. Jack is non-verbal and communicates via PECS.

Overview of role:
On a typical school day, the Support Worker will be assisting Jack’s morning routine including his personal care (he is incontinent), breakfast and getting him dressed for school. You will be required to give Jack his medication (he is on epilepsy meds twice a day) using a syringe in his mouth which he takes readily. Ideally you will also drive and collect Jack from school but if not, there are light household duties that can be completed whilst mum does the school run. The after-school shift includes some meal preparation, taking Jack out or sitting quietly with him at home. In the event Jack is not at school, due to illness or staff shortage someone who has flexibility to help cover the daytime hours would be desirable. Activities would involve spending time with him at home, watching him play with toys, showing him photos on iPad etc. Most of all he loves being taken out, especially the park.

Who this job would suit:
This role will suit some who is energetic and likes the outdoors. Personality wise we are looking for someone who is smiley and friendly without being too loud. Jack is very tactile and loves to give cuddles so you will need to be comfortable with this. (Jack has had his COVID vaccine). You must be a driver with your own car, mileage paid when used on duty.

What’s great about this job:
This is a great opportunity to support Jack and his family in their time of need. This family are always looking for local Support Workers so there could be the opportunity for further permanent hours.
