Kadir is a very smart and intelligent 15-year-old. He loves to draw and paint, he has great interest in politics, flags and enjoys swimming. He also enjoys spending time with his younger brother 12, however there can be occasional sibling arguments. An additional member of the family is an adorable Desert dog, so you must be a dog lover!
Kadir has High Functioning Autism and suffers from anxiety and processing sensory disorder. Kadir requires support with his emotional and social skills and can present with challenging behaviour. When anxious, he can resort to obstructive and oppositional behaviour.
Kadir attends a mainstream school, but often finds the environment overwhelming and needs to be picked up earlier or he may stay at home.
You will need extensive experience with children or young adults with ASD and anxiety. Working alongside an OT who is well known to the family, you will create a therapy programme which you will be implementing intensively into the daily routine. The main goal is to help Kadir manage his anxiety, take part in everyday life and improve his social and emotional skills.
Your role will be to spend an hour in the morning implementing the therapy, take Kadir to school and spend another hour with him there. In the afternoon, you will assist with homework, organise and encourage play dates and social interaction with his peers. The family has a fabulous swimming pool where Khalid likes to spend time.
This exciting position will suit a confident, energetic and calm OT who will build a trusting and engaging relationship with Kadir. You will have the opportunity to travel with the family to some fantastic destinations.
