About this client/child: Thomas, aged 5, lives at home surrounded by his loving family including his 3-year-old brother! Thomas responds with a smile when his parents and staff play games with him. Thomas sustained a Perinatal Hypoxic Brain Injury at birth resulting in profound developmental delay, and complex care and medical needs. Thomas has dystonic cerebral palsy, a PEG in situ, epilepsy, and requires suctioning. He receives a high level of support from multiple medical professionals and teams. More information is available on his medical needs when you apply. ‘Team Thomas’ provides round the clock support and works like a well-oiled machine and ensures that he receives the highest level of care, support, and therapy input.  His team is led by a team leader and there is now an opening for a Deputy Team Leader to join and assist with the managerial/lead duties.

Overview of role: The role of the Deputy Team Leader is to work collaboratively with the Team Leader assisting with all delegated duties. A full list of roles and responsibilities will be provided. The Deputy Team Leader will also work contact hours with Thomas, tending to all his health, care and medical needs. Thomas benefits from structure and routine throughout the day, he is unable to verbalise his needs, wishes, and wants, so it is vital that his care needs are anticipated; however, he will give you a big smile when he is happy. Thomas is making fantastic progress with his rehabilitation; there will be a lot of therapy input (OT, SaLT, Physiotherapy etc.) which will be implemented daily by his care team. He attends nursery and his team support him in this setting. The Deputy Team Leader will provide support in all aspects of Thomas’ care (day and waking night), including his complex care medical needs (suctioning, PEG feed). Bespoke training is provided, however, due to his high level of needs, you must have previous experience supporting a young person with epilepsy and seizures and suctioning. The position offers a mixture of long shifts, typically 12 hours (days and waking nights) along with some shorter days / afternoons. There are dedicated admin hours set aside each week. Shifts start at 7.00am/pm and from 12 midday.

Who this job would suit: A professional, organised and experienced complex care support worker looking to progress into a deputy team leader position.  It is essential that you are available for a mixture of shifts based on a rota. Previous experience in a team leader role is highly desirable, however, training is provided, and the team leader will support your transition into your new role.

What’s great about this job: A great opportunity to take the next step in your career. This role enables you to continue working hands on with a young person and learn new skills to support your progression. Training and ongoing supervision provided.
