About this client/child:
Tommy, 4 years old, is unstoppable and quite unforgettable! He has a fab big brother and a wonderful mum and dad. He has a small, incredibly loyal team who he is very Intune with. Tommy is extremely sociable and chatty; his language progress has been his biggest achievement. He loves learning new words and being read to or told stories. Going out in his buggy is exciting for Tommy; he has a passion for transport, especially cars so wandering through town and watching the traffic go by is joyous. Tommy has Dyskinetic cerebral palsy and is prone to throat infections. He requires support with all his daily/nightly needs including moving and handling and personal care. He is fed orally and medication when required is also given orally.

Overview of role:
Tommy’s family is looking for an experienced waking night one-to-one support worker, with good professional knowledge of supporting a young child.  You will play a very active role with him at night; assisting with his night routine, (showering and winding down before bed), hanging out with family, or bedtime stories. Tommy does generally sleep well during the night, however, there will be occasions of wakeful periods if he is poorly or unwell due to chest infections. On these occasions, he requires gentle reassurance until he falls asleep. A fully equipped room is provided with a video monitor to enable you to always keep watch over Tommy whilst he is asleep, ensuring he is safe and comfortable. There are light domestic duties carried out related to Tommy.  He has a lovely bedroom and bathroom with hoists in place and a therapy room.

Who this job would suit:
Tommy is fiercely determined so it is important for him to be able to make choices, allowing him to feel in control and independent. He is no pushover! He has a wicked sense of humour so will laugh out loud if you make funny noises or fall over! You will bring to this role confidence and sensibility; Tommy requires a firm, consistent but gentle and good-humored approach.

What’s great about this job:
Joining ‘Team Tommy’ will be an amazing opportunity. The family travels a few times a year so a valid passport please! The therapists involved with Tommy will support you in learning new skills and there will be ongoing supervision. This is an exceptionally open and fun family that wants Tommy’s team to feel a part of their family life.
