About this client/child: Snap have had the pleasure of working with our client Kareem for a number of years! He is 16 years old, living with his family in Hendon and is supported by a dedicated and hard-working care team, that provides 24/7 support. Kareem is a sociable, outgoing, and charming young man with a love for music, and spending time with his family and friends - he loves being the centre of attention! Kareem has Cerebral Palsy and is dependent on others to meet all his health, care, and medical needs. He is a wheelchair user, requires suctioning and communicates through sounds, facial expressions, and body language. Kareem has recently had a PEG inserted, and receives all his nutrition, fluid, and medication via peg feed.

Overview of role: The Waking Night Carer will provide 1:1 support to Kareem, assisting with his personal care, PEG feed and PEG management, following his bedtime routine, soothing and settling him down for a good night’s rest. Kareem can experience discomfort during the night and may require winding, along with regular repositioning (Whilst hoists are available during the day, they are too disruptive to Kareem’s sleep during the night, therefore manual handing is required). Professional moving and handling training will be provided, and a specialist carers’ chair is in place following the advice from a moving and handling expert. Kareem can experience periods of wakefulness or restlessness and requires a patient, and calm Waking Night Carer to comfort him back to sleep. You will be active during the night, however, are welcome to read/study once Kareem is sleeping and reports / admin are completed. You will have access to a bathroom, tea/coffee facilities, and snacks.

Who this job would suit: An experienced Waking Night Carer with excellent communication skills, dedicated, hardworking, patient, caring and calm. You will be confident working in a family home, within a team, and alongside other professionals. Due to the level of training you will receive in this role, we are looking for a Waking Night Carer who can commit to a permanent contract for a minimum of 12 months.

What’s great about this job: Excellent training in all aspects of Kareem’s care, ongoing support, and supervision. A fantastic working environment where Kareem’s team is both respected and supported. The role comes highly recommend by previous and current Snap Support Workers and Waking Night Carers.
