About this client/child: Leah (7) and her brother, Albert (10), live at home with their Mum and Dad. They are loving children with a fantastic sense of humour! Leah and Albert have very different personalities. Leah is bubbly and chatty and loves playing with her Barbies and Lego, role playing shops and schools, colouring and gymnastics, she will also happily sing along to songs on YouTube. Arthur prefers a calmer atmosphere, and he loves football, cricket, Formula One, playing games on his Nintendo Switch and jigsaws. They have a large garden that is full of fun activities and equipment for them to use, and they both enjoy spending lots of time playing there. Neither Leah nor Arthur like dogs. They both have a diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) and can present with some mild anxiety. Albert in particular, thrives on routine, and can experience sensory overload, especially when he is tired after a long day at school. Both children will need a gradual transition with a new SEN Nanny/Manny to build up a trusting relationship where they both feel comfortable.

Overview of role: Days start at 2.30pm, to pick both children up from school. The children attend different schools, and Albert is collected first at 3.15pm. Then it’s a short drive over to Leah’s school to collect her at 4.00pm. Albert likes to have a magazine to read in the car while waiting for Leah. Albert can sometimes find the wait a little arduous, as he may be tired after a busy day at school, so the SEN Nanny/Manny will need to have an awareness of this. Once home, the children like to relax and enjoy winding down with their preferred activities. Albert enjoys some quiet time playing on his Nintendo, and Leah may want to role play, or weather permitting, both children like to play in the garden, and they would love their new SEN Nanny/Manny to play with them! Then, it’s a simple dinner, and Albert likes to eat the same meals each week. Both children will thrive if the SEN Nanny/Manny takes time to get to know their likes and preferences and can engage with each child in the way they both prefer. Albert will benefit from someone who can read his subtle cues and pick up on when he is feeling overwhelmed and needs some space and down time. He will also appreciate someone who can take an interest in the things that he loves. Leah will benefit from someone who is upbeat and chatty and can play and chat with her. Both children absolutely love it when their Nanny/Manny shares stories with them about their own life, and this will be key to building a trusting and long-lasting relationship. Over time, there is scope to work longer hours during the school holidays and potentially take the children out on day trips once a trusting relationship has been established.

Who this job would suit: This role will suit someone who has experience of working with children. Maybe someone who has been an LSA in a school, and who is now looking to branch out into SEN Nannying. Someone with an awareness of SEN, who is looking for a long-term role within a family home.

What’s great about this job: This is a fantastic opportunity to become part of a loving family, and support two wonderful children. Mum and Dad are fantastic and easy-going and will be a pleasure to work with.

Who is recruiting for this role? Snap Care will be carrying out all recruitment including shortlisting, recruiter interviews and arranging employer interviews.
