About this client/child: Daniel (20) is a bright young man with many interests. He enjoys cycling, languages (especially French), the piano, reading, going out, meeting his friends, and leading an independent life from his family. He attends a local college four times a week and is studying Math’s at GCSE level. Thomas has cerebral palsy and is dependent on others for all his needs. He is a wheelchair user, non-verbal but uses a communication aid with great efficiency. Daniel had a PEG fitted about 18 months ago – this is used as and when needed for top ups, especially when he is unwell. There is a full multi-disciplinary team in place.

Overview of role: Your role will be to support Daniel with his afternoon and weekend routine, providing personal care, enabling him to pursue his interests and exploring new activities. Although working 1:1 with Daniel whilst in his family home (family may be present) another Support Worker will accompany you on days out/holidays where needed. Working hours are: Week 1: Tuesday and Friday, 3:45pm to 10:00pm, and Sunday 8:00 am to 5:30 am. Week 2: Tuesday and Thursday, 3.45pm to 10:00pm. There is an opportunity to work an additional Saturday which would top you up to 28 hours a week. There are also additional hours in the college holidays (15 weeks). Full training in all aspects of Daniel’s care will be given and you will be supported by the Team Leader and Parents. The hourly rate is up to £16.50 DOE. Candidates with no prior experience are welcome to apply, the rate offered will be £15.00 Gross Per Hour.

Who this job would suit: We are looking for a personable candidate who will bring new skills/ interests to Daniel’s team. If you play an instrument, speak a foreign language, are sporty or have any other great hobbies or skills we would love to hear from you! It is important the Support Worker can present themselves confidently (even when you’re not) as Daniel can easily pick up on this and can become anxious.  The family invests a lot of time in training so are really looking for candidates who are committed.

What’s great about this job: Fantastic training is offered by the family. Friendly working environment. The biggest selling point without a doubt is having the opportunity to work with Daniel, he is sure to keep a smile on your face and make this a very rewarding role.
