M & S Specialist Bodysuits & Sleepwear

Short sleeve bodysuit with tummy popperMarks and Spencer now offer a specialist range of bodysuits and sleep wear for children with special needs with many ranges going up to 16 years old.

The clothes were created in response to a customer's request for bodysuits, sleep suits and vests with poppers to be made for older children.

Mum Zoe Hardcastle was struggling to get clothing to cater for her three-year-old disabled son Caleb who needs to wear a nappy and use a feeding tube daily. Her mother-in law, Rita Kutt approached M&S and they agreed to put together a range of clothes to cater for children with similar needs.

Great work Rita Kutt, well done M&S and thanks to Amanda Bairstow from Amanda Bairstow Consultants for letting us know about this!

Public Speaking Course

Michael Trigg - The Presentation Maestro!

Following Sally's attendance at a Michael Trigg 'Bootcamp' last year, we were delighted to welcome him to the Snap office to present the same one day course for Jade, Jim, Rachael and Yvonne,  They were joined by Rachel Wyper an Independent Speech and Language Therapist and co-founder of NRG (Neuro Rehab Group), who was the first name picked in a draw to win a place on the course.
Rachel provides specialist inter disciplinary assessment and specialist neurological rehabilitation to clients in the North West and Midlands areas. She also associates with AJ Case Management Ltd and provide therapeutic Case Management to individuals who have complex needs.

Talking of the day, Rachel said, "I was extremely fortunate to win a place on Michael Triggs presentation skills course hosted by Snap Care. I absolutely loved my day in London and was made feel so welcomed. It was a great course which has given me confidence and developed skills I never knew I had. I am already sharing my skills with colleagues and I really can't wait to prepare and present my next talk! (without notes!)

Thanks to everyone for a fun and very insightful day! If Snap Care work with clients the way they have with me, then I am sure they will have an excellent impression on any new or existing clients"

The course was particularly helpful to Jade and Jim who will be speaking at the Jacqueline Webb Annual Conference on Thursday 16th March.

"Our training with Michael Trigg was excellent!" said Jim, adding "I was feeling so nervous about speaking to a big group of people, but Michael’s easy manner and planning techniques really has put my mind at ease. Michael offered small, manageable changes to posture, speed of talking and manner which really made the world of difference in the talk I will be giving. I would thoroughly recommend anyone preparing for a talk or speech to give Michael a call!"

Benedict's emotional return to Papua New Guinea, their interactions with the local people including a young woman of 23 with a physical disability who has no wheelchair and replies on her father to be carried around.

A great documentary about so much more than just beautiful birds...

#Snap Hot Twitter Topics This Month!

Our Twitter topic this month has to be #Red4Wed  /  #showyouknow campaign raising awareness for Encephalitis by lighting up numerous buildings across the globe and wearing red.

Snap were proud to support such a marvellous campaign - (Rachael is actually wearing the official #Red4Wed t-shirt though it's a well-hidden!). As well as lighting up buildings across the globe, supporters donned anything red - great effort from solicitors Leigh Day and we rather like those red shoes Jen Cawthorne at Irwin Mitchell!

Celebrating 22 Years of MarriageWe love this!

Congratulations to Maryanne and Tommy Pilling who celebrated 22 years of happy marriage.

Maryanne and Tommy celebrate 22 years togetherThey are thought to be the first couple with Down's syndrome to get married in the UK.

Maryanne's sister is quoted as saying that at the time their mother received quite a lot of criticism for 'allowing' them to get married but thankfully insisted it was their decision.

While we loved this good news story, it was disappointing to see the mainstream press refer to Maryanne and Tommy as a 'Down's syndrome couple' in their headlines. Maybe they could take a look at the Down's Syndrome Society's Terminology Page!

On 14th February our good friend Ben Somers ran an experimental workshop at the RNIB for teenage musicians aged 13-19 who are blind or partially sighted to explore contemporary music and jam together.

Jackie from Snap was thrilled to be invited to attend the performance following the workshop and had the pleasure of meeting Charlie, Charlotte and Louis, together with Anna from Lindon Lodge School and Ben.

The RNIB have run similar workshops during half-term holidays and you can keep up to date with future events on their website.

The students travel from all over the UK to attend the workshops and from meeting at previous events, Charlotte and Louis are part of "Up North Down South", a band of young, visually-impaired musicians and song-writers who have released several charity singles!
