£478.00 Gross per Weekend. Weekend Waking Night Carer required for a 16-year-old teen with complex medical care needs. Permanent contract based in the Aylesbury area, HP18.

Days & Hours: Friday, Saturday: 9.00pm – 8.00am, Sunday: 9.00pm – 6.30am. Additional hours available during school holidays and happy to consider a waking night carer working alternate weekends/shifts.  
Pets: Rabbits and a new puppy will be joining the family in the near future.

Sophie is 16 years old and lives at home with her Mum, Dad, twin brother and younger sister. Sophie is a bright, engaging character who enjoys baking, arts and crafts, watching Strictly Come Dancing and listening to her favourite band Little Mix! Sophie is looking for new Female* waking night carers to join her team and provide 1:1 support during the weekends and school holidays.

Sophie has dyskinetic cerebral palsy and complex care needs, she has a DBS (deep brain stimulation) in place to ease the symptoms and help with her painful dystonia. Sophie has a PEG in situ for medication and fluids however she enjoys being fed orally and can drink fluids however her food is a soft diet and fluids are thickened as she is prone to aspirate. Sophie is a wheelchair user and uses a communication book and Eye Gaze to support her communication. Sophie is completely dependent on others to meet all her care needs.

In this permanent role you’ll provide waking night support to Sophie, assisting with her bedtime routine, personal care, repositioning, manual handling and tending to all her needs throughout the night. You’ll monitor Sophie regularly and follow her care plan ensuring she is comfortable and settled for a good night sleep. Each night will be different as at times Sophie will experience discomfort due to her dystonia. It’s essential to accurately record and document each shift.

This is a unique position as both Sophie and her twin brother have complex care needs, they both have their own care team in place however it is a busy working environment and it’s all hand on deck to ensure the twins care needs are met, and to a high standard. Previous experience supporting a client with complex care needs is essential along with knowledge of cerebral palsy, dystonia, medication, PEG and manual handling. We are recruiting permanent team members who can make a long term commitment to this wonderful family. Excellent training opportunities are available.
