Sam is 16 years old and lives at home with his Mum, Dad, twin sister and younger sister. Sam is a bright and fun loving guy who is a big footie fan, supporting Arsenal, he also enjoys baking, arts and crafts and is an animal lover, and his favourite TV show is ‘For the love of dogs’. Sam is seeking a *Female Support Worker to join his care team and provide support during the weekends and school holidays.
Sam has dyskinetic cerebral palsy, complex care needs, dystonia, PEG and a cochlear implant. He uses some sign language and a communication book to support his communication. Sam has a DBS (Deep Brain Stimulation) in place to help with his painful dystonia and to ease some of its symptoms. He can require oral and nasal suctioning and on a rare occasion oxygen therapy via a facial mask. Sam receives all liquid and medication via his PEG and his food orally; he has a soft diet with all his food small bite sizes. Sam is a wheelchair user and is dependent on others to meet all his care needs.
In this role you’ll provide 1:1 support to Sam, follow his care plan and assist with personal care, manual handling, and feeding, administering medication and most importantly to promote his independence and ensure he is reaching his full potential. Sam requires a creative, energetic and outgoing support worker who’ll plan and organise activities, events and trips out and about or provide support at home and in the community when he is spending time with his family. Sam really wants to enjoy his weekends and your role will be to facilitate and enable him to do so.
This is a unique position as Sam and his twin sister Sophie have complex medical and care needs, both have their own care team in place and although you’ll solely work with Sam it is a busy working environment and its all hand on deck to ensure the twins care needs are met, and to a high standard. Previous experience supporting a client with complex care needs is essential along with knowledge of cerebral palsy, dystonia, PEG and manual handling. We are recruiting permanent team members who can make a long term commitment to this wonderful family. Excellent training opportunities are available.
