About this client/child: Barnaby (17) is an inquisitive teenager who has an interest in people and is a bit of a joker. He lives at home with Mum, Dad, brother (16) 2 house rabbits (which he proudly showed us!) and one friendly Labrador. Barnaby likes gaming on his Xbox, especially Minecraft, and he enjoys DIY and crafts, the card game Uno, and cooking vegetarian dishes. Barnaby attends a specialist school in the daytime which he enjoys and although he prefers being at home and sleeping often, he has many ideas of attending various activities out and about once he has a support worker with whom he has built up a trusting rapport with. Barnaby has Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, Dyspraxia, dyslexia, disordered speech and behaviours and language that challenge. He is affected by environments with loud noise and crowds. Barnaby requires reassurance, prompting, supervision and guidance with most activities, personal care, and social relationships.
Overview of role: This is a 3 week, temporary placement, whilst Barnaby's current support worker is on annual leave. The role of this support worker will be to support Barnaby to help him manage his anxieties and build his independence skills. Barnaby has breakfast in his bedroom before taking his medication, and he will need a bath running for him and clothes laid out ready so he can prepare as independently as possible for his day ahead. Once home, Barnaby is generally tired from the day, so has a snack and drink before having a rest or sleep. He may play the Xbox, watch TV, or do some DIY and crafts, and will need supervising and guidance throughout all. Barnaby will need support to run a bath and dress ready for bed.

You’ll understand emotional trauma and anxieties and stay calm and confident in challenging situations. This role may require you to occasionally use safe restraint and be physically and mentally fit.
