Ian aged 10, is a bright and communicative young man who loves gaming, puzzles, rowing and swimming. He has a younger brother Sam aged 8 who has similar interests. Ian is autistic (with borderline pathological demand avoidance ‘PDA’) and very high levels of anxiety. Both boys attend a mainstream independent boys prep school. Ian attends school on a reduced timetable and Sam has a very busy schedule in the evenings with lots of swimming demands.

The role will involve supporting Ian both in school and at home, as well as helping him transition between the two environments. You will be solely responsible for supporting Ian during timetable gaps, arranging activities and supervising him, as well as acting as an ambassador for Ian during difficult times. You must confidently liaise between class teachers and his parents. Once home, the role would be more that of a traditional nanny, supporting both Ian and Sam; this will include some meal preparation and light household tasks.

Ian can become easily overwhelmed and frustrated, so the right person needs to be both patient and upbeat. You’ll need to be willing to take time to earn Ian’s trust and become his confidant and rock in difficult times.

This is a great opportunity to gain a variety of experience in both the home and school setting. You will also be responsible for taking Ian to his Occupational therapy appointments and in turn will be taught techniques to use and implement in the home.
