Title: SEN Buddy
Location: Uxbridge, UB8
Nearest Tube Station: Uxbridge Station
Wage / Salary: £17.00 gross per hour
Driver required? Preferable to get to job location
Use of a car? Will need own car
Essential: Autism experience and good understanding of Sensory Processing disorder
Desirable: PECS and interest in Speech & language
Start Date: ASAP
Days & Hours:  Saturday from 10.00 am to 6.00 pm. Scope for additional hours during school holidays and extra babysitting hours.

Thomas is a funny and cheeky 8-year-old boy. He enjoys rough and tumble play, climbing, rebound therapy and of course the iPad! Thomas is autistic and has Sensory Processing Disorder. He has a very good understanding of things going on around him and doesn’t miss a trick. He has more difficulty in relaying information and his language can be very echolalic. Thomas uses PECS as a form of communication, so prior experience would be useful. He has no awareness of danger so when out and about you really need to be alert.

The main focus of the role will be tailored around engaging with Thomas, creating fun and providing him with new opportunities and activities. If Thomas had his choice he would be very happy to be left alone with iPad so an important focus will be around helping him understand the world outside of the screen and to help bring him out of himself. Thomas is accepting of new people but he takes time to trust and form a bond. He struggles with transitions so needs lots of reassurance.

He prefers to be in control of situations so giving Thomas choices is important. There will be aspects of personal care involved with the role so you should be comfortable with this.

This job will suit someone who is a quick thinker and can bring an abundance of new ideas to the role. You should have a ‘can do’ attitude, be very determined, fun and patient. Ideally someone who is quite active and physical would work well as Thomas enjoys running, exploring the grounds and is not afraid of a bit of mud!

This is a great opportunity for someone to utilise their skills to help unlock Thomas’s full potential, whilst offering some respite to the family. To apply please send your CV to Rachael at Snap who has met with this welcoming family.
