About this client/child:

A lovely opportunity for an experienced Support Worker to join Lucy 14 years old, who lives at home with her mum, stepfather, and fabulous siblings. Lucy is quite laid back and likes to, with adult facilitated, movement with music. Lucy’s favourite music at the moment is Reggae! Lucy also loves listening to audiobooks. When new Support Workers come on board, Lucy is a little suspicious, but she likes listening to the chatter around her. Once she gets to know you, expect dirty looks when you come back off your holidays. She is very cheeky and a real hoot!  Lucy has quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy, profound and multiple learning disabilities, is registered blind and has type 1 diabetes; client-specific training can be given via diabetic nurse or mum.  Lucy is totally dependent on others to meet all her care needs. She has epilepsy but her seizures are mild and controlled. Lucy is PEG fed but can have tasters. There are hoists in place and Lucy has her own bedroom and bathroom.

Overview of role:

Morning routine during term time is getting Lucy up and ready for the bus, after school, a little bit of down time and then bath and bed. During holidays Lucy’s routine is more relaxed; slower and chilled mornings, hanging out with her siblings, who are very much a part of Lucy’s life. They like to get involved with play or listening to music and books with her. You will facilitate Lucy to access and explore the world around her whilst continually promoting her independence.

Who this job would suit:

This role will suit a dedicated, friendly *female support worker who has worked in a home environment and happy to work alongside mum. Having a get and up go attitude is important, and a real desire to support Lucy using all your skills and knowledge. Due to COVID 19 a driver has been important due to not relying on public transport

Rota: Term Time: Monday to Friday, 07.00am to 09.00am ( during these hours it will be 2-1) and then 4.30pm to 8.00pm ( 2-1)  Holidays: Monday to Friday The hours covered are 08.00am to 8.00pm. Shifts during these hours are split; 08.00am to 3.00pm or 1.00pm to 8.00pm. ( during 1pm to 3pm it will be 2-1) Bank holidays are worked. Lucy has two weeks off during the summer, two weeks at Christmas and one week at Easter Time. There will be the opportunity to cover weekend bank staff and annual leave.

What’s great about this job:

Lucy is a lovely young lady to work with. This job could fit well with online study as there is a good amount of time between shifts.
