Freddie is an energetic and happy 5-year-old who loves laughter. He enjoys physical play, music, visual stimulation and more recently counting. Freddie is autistic, has a severe learning disability, is pre-verbal and is of small stature. He is mobile, has good motor skills and uses PECS and Makaton to communicate. Freddie has a 12-year old brother called Max who is generally very self-sufficient and so most often being a positive role model is all that is required.
The role will focus on Freddie’s care and development, being sensitive to his interests and tuning into his non-verbal communication. Once Freddie has been collected from school you will usually take him to an activity then home for dinner, bath and bedtime. During these moments you will encourage and challenge Freddie to interact more, express himself, understand emotions and be more independent. The family are really keen for the SEN Nanny to suggest new ideas and work with them to support Freddie’s overall development.
This job will suit someone who is animated, playful and not afraid to be silly. Freddie really responds well to sensory experiences, music and Intensive Interaction so prior experience in these areas would be very desirable. The family are soon to be the proud owners of a new puppy. Once the puppy is settled, the family will explore ways of helping Freddie and the puppy to bond and long term the view is for him to become a therapy dog.
This is a great opportunity to work with a family who are looking for someone with a curious mind who is happy to explore new ideas. This is a role where you are encouraged to bring suggestions to the table and should not be afraid to use your initiative. There is the possibility of further training which can be made available via Freddie’s School. For more information please contact Rachael at Snap who has met with this welcoming family.
