Start Date: ASAP, Ongoing

Family/Client Pets: Poodle (non-allergic hair)

About this client/child:
Harry aged 4.5 is a bright little boy who enjoys Lego, puzzles, reading and being read to, as well as being outside in all weathers. His younger brother Luke is 14 months old and is very cuddly and extremely responsive. He looks up to his big brother and is keen to do some of the same things. Harry has had an initial paediatric assessment with a ‘high probability’ of autism and has a slight delay in interactive social skills (estimated 36 months). He has a reading age of seven to eight and is also gifted mathematically. He had behavioural problems leading to withdrawal from a private pre-school and, although these have reduced since he left the school, he still needs support in group situations, around regulating his emotions and managing change. Harry responds well to positive praise and encouragement.

Overview of role:
As the SEN Nanny you will be caring for both children. Harry has returned to an outdoor nursery on Thursday and Friday and will be starting a local school in September. Until Harry starts school, the SEN Nanny will organise educational-related activities whilst interacting with both children. Harry struggles with changes in routine, interactive play and reciprocal conversation, and will need support for these things. He has some anxiety about toileting and will need support in using an adult/primary toilet without a booster seat. After he begins school, the SEN Nanny will be mainly responsible for Luke, but will also need to provide Harry with after-school support. The role will also include typical nanny duties: children’s laundry, meal preparation and tidying the play area. The family are offering a salary of £30,784.00 + depending on experience. They can guarantee 37 hours a week, with the possibility of more, and can offer flexibility with start and finish times.

Who this job would suit:
The family are looking for a SEN Nanny who is outdoorsy and familiar with autism. Harry does occasionally have meltdowns under pressure, or when very tired so you should feel confident managing this. Managing two children of different ages is a must, as is being experienced with toddlers as the role will increasingly shift towards caring for Luke. The family have an electric cargo trike, rather than a car, and a willingness (or desire) to learn to ride this would be helpful in terms of moving the kids around.

What’s great about this job:
The family are offering a competitive salary and live very close to Greenwich Park so it’s a nice location to work in with many opportunities for pleasant walks. This is also an opportunity to work with a gifted child who needs to find his place in the world.
