About this client/child:
Peter 14, is a charming young man who is currently at a residential school and comes home for some weekends, usually every third weekend, and school holidays. He is very active and enjoys being outside, jumping on his trampoline or riding his bike. He also likes listening to music and watching movies on his iPad. Peter has an Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) and a diagnosis of autism. He is happy and affectionate but can present with behaviour that may challenge and become impulsive (pushing, pulling hair, or biting), especially towards his mother. Peter has limited verbal communication and uses some Makaton.

Overview of role:
In this position you will assist Peter with his daily routine when home from school. You will assist with personal care, meals preparation, playing or going out and accessing activities. You need to be a team player and be comfortable working alongside mum; your support will enable mum and Peter to enjoy quality time together. Peter comes home every third or fourth weekend, and the hours will cover Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon including sleeping nights. Days and hours for school holiday cover to be discussed with individual applicants.

Who this job would suit:.
This truly rewarding position will suit a confident and calm support worker with extensive experience with children or young adults with autism and communication difficulties. You will be confident to de-escalate a behaviour that may challenge and be fit, strong and vigilant to ensure Peters safety, especially when outside.

What’s great about this job:
Our client will work with the successful candidate to agree working days during Peter’s school holidays, which do not always fall within state school holiday dates. This could be ideal for students or support workers who are looking for a flexible part-time role. Although only part-time, your input will potentially make a real difference this lovely family.
