Jake aged 19 loves music, laughter and sunshine. He especially enjoys spending time outdoors riding his adapted tricycle and swimming. He is very sociable character, charming and also a little cheeky! Jake has profound intellectual and physical difficulties and is very small for his age. He requires support for all aspects of his life. Jake can bear his own weight, help with assisted transfers and take steps with a trained facilitator; he is not hoisted (other than for swimming). He is non-verbal and but has some limited and emerging communication with support (PODD book). He needs support for feeding, meal prep, medications, personal care and all activities.
During your shifts you would be solely responsible for Jake – the rest of the family may be in or out – this will involve therapeutic play, taking him out on outings or activities in the community and meal and medication preparation. The family are happy to come up with a schedule that works best for you and them but ideally looking for an average of 20/30 hours a week. They are looking for someone with positive energy and ability to keep their son entertained.
This job will suit someone who has prior experience with additional needs and a desire to learn more. You will need to be creative, upbeat and a self-starter in order to feel confident to take Jake out on outings and to implement therapeutic play. There is the opportunity that the position could be extended past the summer if mutually agreeable. This a warm and relaxed family who look forward to hearing from you soon. To apply please send your CV to Rachael at Snap.
