Adam is a bright and articulate soon to be 20 year old with a wide range of interests, including fossil hunting, horror movies and music technology. A creative and self-aware chap, Adam is looking for an active and engaging support worker who shares some of his interests and has a thirst for exploring and adventure. Adam is supported by a Snap candidate Mon to Thurs, together they are making wonderful progress.

Adam has mosaic Down syndrome and learning difficulties, but does not fit the classic profile for someone with Down’s syndrome. He has a B12 vitamin deficiency which was undiagnosed, this has caused him to be very unwell for a couple of years however the good news is that his health has improved and he is now accessing college with the intention of attending for more days! Adam follows a special diet and can appear to have ASD type characteristics which can result in stubbornness or a delay in processing information.

This is an exciting time as Adam’s family are considering a transition to supported living and you will be instrumental in supporting Adam in building his life skills including travel training, shopping, money management and household responsibilities. You will be an incredibly active candidate who is able to implement an activity programme at home including football, cycling and walking as Adam can be conscious about his body image.  You will be able to motivate and encourage Adam to get out and about. This can be to access fun activities such as the cinema, sports and socialising. Adam loves activities related to his interests, so someone who wants to hunt for fossils together at the beach would be great.

The family are looking for a candidate who can be flexible and pitch in when needed, offering evening and weekend support. More information at interview stage.

No two days will be the same and the role is two-fold as you will also be happy to muck-in with household chores, running errands, cooking and shopping. This list is not exhaustive, therefore we are looking for great candidates who are happy to help wherever they can. It is essential that you are confident with working with young adults, understand professional boundaries and are happy to work together with Adam’s family (mum, dad and younger brother.) This is a great opportunity to work 1:1 with a creative young man to help him achieve his full potential. If you are interested in this wonderful role, please contact Jade at Snap who are working with this fantastic family well known to Snap.
