We are looking for calm, experienced, motivated and confident support workers to assist Tom (15) in the mornings. Tom is a charming boy with great sense of humour. He enjoys watching music videos on his iPad, bouncing on the bed, swimming and visiting the farm. He has an Acquired Brain Injury which presents with severe communication difficulties and learning difficulties. Tom has epilepsy, he takes daily medication, however he still has frequent seizures.

Tom has limited verbal communication and uses some sign language. Tom can present with challenging behaviour, he can display aggressive outburst and physically hit out when he is worried and confused. Any sudden and loud noises (such as sneezing or coughing) may trigger seizures.

The role consists of morning shifts with the possibility of extra hours after getting familiar with Tom and his routine. You will support him during his morning routine; assisting with personal care, breakfast and getting dressed. Tom needs prompting and guidance at all times. Tom attends a special needs school which he is taken to and collected from by local authority transport.

This truly rewarding position would suit a confident and calm person with extensive experience with children or young adults with ABI and communication difficulties. You will be required to undertake Sign language training and this will be a fantastic opportunity to learn a new skill and make a positive difference to Tom’s life.
