We are delighted to be working in association with Celsior Case Management on this position. Please note, Celsior will be doing all the recruitment, including shortlisting and interviews.

Thomas is a very funny and intelligent 12 year old with a high level of understanding. His favourite things at the moment are: chocolate, Mario, YouTube, inside out, Star Wars and Olly Murs. Thomas has a diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy, Atypical Autism Spectrum Disorder and has sensory processing difficulties. He uses a wheelchair for extended walking, otherwise he is very mobile around the house and garden. He does need to be seated correctly when undertaking tasks, he uses a wombat chair for eating and homework, a specialist car seat and a p-pod for relaxing.

Thomas is dysrthric but he can be understood. He has a full physiotherapy and SALT programme which is carried out at home. He attends the gym once a week and this activity needs to be supervised. Thomas plays wheelchair basketball and there are training sessions most Saturdays and matches two or three times a term. He is very independent in his personal care - he can get into and out of the bath, bathe, wash his hair, clean his teeth and wash his face - but does however need to be kept on track. Thomas responds well to a regular routine and can become anxious when things change, especially without warning. When asking Thomas to do something the instructions need to be clear and firm.

Occasionally Thomas can have challenging behaviour, this is becoming less regular but if it does happen he needs to be given time and space where possible. Remind Thomas that if he's feeling cross he needs to take himself to his bedroom or out to the trampoline (in waterproofs if raining) to calm down for a couple of minutes. Thomas should be supervised at all times, especially when in the garden as it is not currently secure.

Your role as a Support Worker will be to supervise and prompt Thomas at all times, making sure he is being kept on track. If you feel you can help support Thomas, we would love to hear from you. Please send your CV and a short covering email detailing why this job is of interest and the hours and days you are available to rachael@snapcare.co.uk and then your details will be forwarded to Celcior Case Management.
