Thomas aged 19 is a loving and affectionate young man with a brilliant sense of humour. His older brother Edward is currently at University, but they share a great bond. Thomas is autistic and has been part of a successfully run home education (ABA) programme for the last 13 years. He attends a mainstream school for one session a week to cook. Thomas can get anxious and frustrated, but the family have developed excellent strategies to help him with this.

The Support Worker will be actively taught how to apply ABA and be involved in ABA sessions as well as shadow existing members of Thomas’s team to help them gain a further understanding of the strategies used. Friday afternoon there is a meeting for all the therapists plus supervisor.

Thomas enjoys different activities in the late afternoon and early evening including, swimming, cycling, boat club, shopping, cookery club, trampolining and going to the gym.

The family also have a house in East Sussex where they usually spend a week at Easter and up to 6 weeks in the summer. The Support worker will accompany the family 1 week at Easter and for 3 weeks in the summer holidays; your own separate accommodation will be provided.

This job will suit someone who is confident, kind, active, a good team player and happy to muck in with the wider family needs at times. The family are preferably looking for long-term commitment, minimum of one year. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who will bring their own skills to the job and appreciate an amazing learning opportunity. Previous support workers in this job have gone onto further their Psychology career and one has even become an ABA supervisor overseeing several ABA programmes.
