Henry is a charming and energetic 15-year-old. He loves swimming, going to the park and running out and about. Henry has Autism, severe learning difficulties and epilepsy. His epilepsy is controlled by daily medication and there is a protocol to administer emergency medication if needed although seizures are not a frequent occurrence. Henry is non verbal but uses some Makaton. Although Henry is normally happy and affectionate, but naturally when frustrated he can present with some challenging behaviour so a fit, strong and vigilant applicant is essential to ensure Henry’s safety when out.

Henry attends a special needs school and is making great progress here and out and about in the community. Your role would be to support Henry during his after-school routine; assisting with personal care, having dinner, playing and/or going out for a walk and accessing activities.

You will need extensive experience with children or young adults with autism and communication difficulties. The main goal is to help Henry take part in everyday life and improve his social and communication skills.  This exciting position will suit a confident, energetic and calm Buddy who will support Henry to reach his full potential.

*Gender is considered to be a genuine occupational requirement in accordance with paragraph 1 of Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010 for a male worker to work with our client.
