Luke 9, is a lovely, bright young man. He has dyslexia, attachment difficulties and has been recently diagnosed with ASD. Luke enjoys playing with Lego, iPad and toy vehicles. He loves everything about the police and their gadgets and has recently discovered an interest in dirt biking.

Your role will involve picking up Luke from school and supporting him with his after school routine as well as planning trips and activities at the weekends. Due to his sensory processing difficulties, Luke prefers to be in a quiet and calm environment, he finds difficult to filter sound if there are multiple voices. It’s important to keep Luke informed of changes in his routine, he finds changes and any unpredictability unsettling and hard to cope with which might lead to challenging behaviour.

A key part of this role is having the ability to know when to step back and allow personal space, be able to spot triggers, prevent and diffuse challenging situations and quickly move onto more positive and fun interactions.

This position will suit an intuitive, calm, trustworthy and caring Buddy / Support Worker who has a passion for promoting independence and is confident working with children with challenging behaviour. This is an exciting opportunity to support a fantastic family, bond with Luke, gain his trust and help him to achieve his full potential.
