Thomas is a bright, strong and sociable 13 year old boy who loves swimming, riding and outdoor activities. Thomas has cerebral palsy affecting all four limbs, he is non-verbal and is tube fed via a PEG (training will be given). Thomas leads conversations via eye pointing and an Eye Gaze computer system.

Thomas receives 24 hour care and has a team of 7 in place.  The family are currently looking for an On Call Night Support Worker to cover Friday and Saturday nights. Thomas generally sleeps quite well and usually only wakes 1 to 2 times per night for less than 10 minutes, however on occasions he may require more frequent attention.  The Support Worker will have a camera so will be able to see and hear Thomas should he wake. If he wakes Thomas will need repositioning, sometimes a pad change and/or paracetamol (by gastrostomy).

There will be additional hours outside of the night shift which will include supporting Thomas with his evening and morning routines. This will be 2:1 care, either from another Support Worker or from mum directly. These hours will also involve some household tasks, cleaning therapy mats, tidying therapy/playroom, laundry and cooking and preparing meals for Thomas who is now on a blended diet. Additional hours may be requested to cover holiday or sickness.

This role will suit someone who has a calm and gentle approach when supporting Thomas. You should also be sensitive to the privacy needs of the family. The family normally travel to France for 3 to 4 weeks during the summer period (usually August) and would like the support workers to join them for some of this time. They have a lovely property out there which they have adapted for Thomas.

This is a great opportunity to join a supportive family and team who can offer fantastic in-house training. For more information, please contact Rachael at Snap who has met with Thomas and his lovely family.
