About this client/child:
Sam aged 14, is a whirlwind of fun and energy; he is caring and affectionate and loves being the centre of attention. Sam has Global Development Delay and is autistic. His receptive language skills are good and although he has limited expressive language, he uses PECS and Makaton to support his communication. Sam’s mobility is reduced by a lack of 3D perception. He can walk and go up the stairs but needs supervision. Sam is right at the heart of a loving family and we are seeking fantastic hands-on support for this busy bee.

Overview of role:
Sam requires 1:1 support at home for all his needs. The role will involve lots of indoor and outdoor play to engage, stimulate and to teach Sam about the wonderful world around him. Any activities involving reading, ball games, books or music Sam will love; in fact, all the family enjoy music and it’s always played throughout the day. You will assist with the afterschool routine which will include 1:1 interaction both leisure and educational, dinner, personal care, bathing and the bedtime routine. Sam is using the toilet however he will need prompting to go to the bathroom, he also wears pads so you will need to be comfortable with personal care.

Who this job would suit:
We are keen to hear from candidates who are enthusiastic, creative, loving but also firm and consistent.  You must be confident in managing challenging behaviours and able to handle situations safely for yourself and Sam. You need to be confident working alongside Mum or Dad and happy to ‘muck in’ when an extra pair of hands is needed with Sam’s sisters - who are just as lively!

What’s great about this job:
This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a remarkable, cheeky chap with a great sense of humour. If you love to have fun, be a little bit silly and laugh out loud, then you need to meet Sam.
