About this client/child:
Arjun aged 13 is a happy and lively young boy. He loves the outdoors and cooking. As a result of a brain injury at birth, Arjun has mild cerebral palsy, learning difficulties, behaviours that may challenge and ADHD. Arjun is mobile and can move very quickly - and unpredictably. He displays no sense of awareness of potential danger. He wears a protective helmet during the day to prevent him from hurting himself when he trips and falls or displays behaviour such as banging his head against the wall. Arjun can undress himself but will need assistance with dressing. He can eat independently but due to reduced co-ordination he is a messy eater. Arjun has made good progress in developing his language skills, although his pronunciation can be unclear at times and he will often ask repetitive questions. He can use the toilet independently during the day but benefits from pads at bedtime.
Overview of role:
We are looking for a *Female Support Worker to cover one year Maternity leave. Your key role will be to assist Arjun with all aspects of care allowing his parents to step back from the role of primary carers. You will implement daily therapeutic programs that have been designed to promote Arjun’s well-being by his team of therapists. Overall, you will be promoting Arjun’s learning, care and independence in the home and community. As Arjun’s behaviour can be unpredictable, he will need constant supervision, both in the home and wider environments to ensure his safety. Part of your role will also be to assist with tasks related to Arjun, such as tidying his room and ensuring his equipment is clean and tidy. The hours offered are Tuesday to Thursday 4.00pm to 8.00pm, Friday 3.00pm to 8.00pm and Saturday 1.00pm to 8.00pm. Weekdays: £16.00 gross per hour Weekends: £17.00 gross per hour.

This role will suit someone who is pro-active, engaged, firm but fair and has a good sense of humour. You should be very experienced working with young people and confident with behaviour management. The family have a strict non-smoking policy.
