About this client/child:

Jack aged 12 is an intelligent young man with a great sense of humour. He enjoys gaming, Japanese cartoons, history and cooking. His younger brother Elliott aged 8 is a loving, kind and bright boy. Jack is autistic and has PDA. He is in mainstream education but has difficulties with his executive function. Jack will push back if he is asked to do things he doesn’t want to do, such as homework and exercise. If Jack loses control he is likely to swear and shout but is not physically violent. Jack also has issues surrounding food, he can over eat and see food as a huge comfort. Helping Jack build a better relationship with food will be one of the key focuses.

Overview of role:

The family are looking for a SEN Nanny / Manny to support both Jack and Elliott with their after school routine. There should be a focus on homework and learning, but this needs to be balanced with fun and physical activity. You will be responsible for preparing dinner – a healthy balanced diet is important. Although the focus will be on the children’s development the family will also rely on you to keep them informed of anything that is required, such as different food, clothes, uniform etc, as well as usual light housekeeping duties related to the children.

Who this job would suit:

This job will suit someone who has a good understanding of autism who can help create an environment and structure to help Jack remain calm and happy. Both boys love learning through conversation so you should interact well and be able to tap into both of their interests. Jack will need additional support with his homework and learning, so someone who can keep up and is happy to research the odd topic will be important. Kindness and understanding are also needed, but as Jack will push limits, clear boundaries and consistency is critical.

What’s great about this job:

This is a great opportunity to help both Jack and Elliott reach their full potential. This is a role where your ideas and strategies will be really valued. The family can also offer additional time off during the school holidays and an occasional early finish.
