About this client/child:
Holly aged 14 is an incredibly endearing young lady who is bubbly and has a winning smile. She is real a ‘girly girl’ and loves everything to do with hair, make-up and shopping. She enjoys anything creative and is also quite active doing wheelchair dance (when lockdown allows). Holly has Spina Bifida and receptive language delay. She uses a wheelchair and requires assistance with toileting (she is catheterized several times a day, which she can do herself, but she will require bowel care). Holly is becoming much more independent with dressing, but this is still an area she may need occasional help with. She can now shower herself but will need some help in setting everything up in advance and an extra pair of hands to hold things. Holly is a teenage girl and does have some ‘moods’, on these occasions you just need to walk away and let her rant!

Overview of role:
As Holly’s SEN Buddy you will play a key role in her after school routine, assisting with her personal care but also interacting and engaging in lots of fun activities. Holly is now much more independent so we are looking for someone who can enable her further and be a positive role model. Holly is currently working with a trainer once a week to try to maintain/increase her core and upper body strength so this should be encouraged. The SEN Buddy will be working 12 to 18 hours 3 weeks out of 4 but will be guaranteed a full time salary to ensure you are available to ‘live-in’ and assist Holly when the parents travel, you will provided with advanced notice. (This is likely to be once a month, and usually a week in length). The family can offer flexibility with the core days required so please do get in touch with your availability.

Who this job would suit:
This job will suit someone who is fun, has a good sense of humour and is able to just go with the flow at times. Prior experience is not essential as finding someone with the right personality and attitude is key, however candidates experienced with physical disability would be desirable.

What’s great about this job:
This is a wonderful opportunity for someone who is looking to make a difference and gain more experience in the SEN field. This is an incredibly warm, welcoming and fun family who are excited to meet you!
