Essential: Waking night experience, personal care, moving and handling
Desirable:Supporting a client with a spinal injury, someone who is ventilator dependent (But excellent training available).
Start Date: ASAP
Days & Hours:Based on a rota of 37.5 hours over 5 days. See below for more information

Aisha is a delightful young lady aged 16; is bright and very talkative! Aisha has a spinal injury, is a wheelchair user and requires support with daily living activities including personal care, using of hoist for all transfers.  She is ventilator dependent, so requires 24-hour adult support.

As a waking night carer, your role will be to monitor Aisha throughout the night to ensure she is safe and comfortable. Aisha doesn’t usually require assistance through the night, but you will need to be vigilant to detect any changes in her Oxygen saturation (Sats). You’ll work in an adjoining room with a monitor and make regular checks. During this time, you’ll keep occupied to be alert and of course awake. This may include ironing some of Aisha’s clothes, updating her records and doing your own studying.

The hours are based on 37.5 hours on average a week, worked over 5 days. The rota is provided one month in advance and will be a mix of weekday and weekend nights. Night shifts are generally 7.00pm to 7.00am. Some shorter shifts from 7.00pm to 10.00pm are also required when 2 carers are needed for manual handling. Willingness to occasionally cover colleague’s shifts will be appreciated and ensure Aisha’s care needs are met.

This job will suit an experienced Carer / PA who is reliable and commitment to working with Aisha’s parents to provide the best support for their daughter. You’ll have good communication skills and understand the importance of privacy when working in a family environment. The job offers excellent training opportunities, including tracheotomy / ventilation care from the specialist nurse. A great opportunity to work with this fantastic young lady and support her to enjoy the best possible quality of life!
