George 12, is a smart and outgoing boy with great smile. He loves movies, music and creating movie scripts and stories. George has cerebral palsy, is a wheelchair user and requires support with all personal care tasks, such as dressing, washing, toileting etc.George is non verbal and his main form of communication is through his MyTobii eye-gaze system which he has been using for the last few years. You will be required to support George with his communication and keep his system updated. George attends a mainstream school and is cognitively very able.
He has two brothers (14, 9) and an older sister (15). With four children in the house there is a great sense of adventure which at times can be a little chaotic! You’ll need to be able to manage a busy schedule calmly and happy to ‘muck in’.
We require a bubbly and friendly Buddy/ PA who can support George with each aspect of his personal care from getting up to going to bed, assist with his homework, exploring new interests and having fun. There will be some light household duties such as grocery shopping and meal preparation, when George is at school. Mum is very hands-on; you need to be a team player and happy to work alongside her. You will have an opportunity to travel with the family; a valid passport is a must.
This exciting position will suit a cheerful, proactive and sensitive candidate with a great sense of humour. You will be confident, self-motivated and able to work on your own initiative. Although previous Cerebral Palsy experience would be preferable it is not essential, the right personality is key and full training will be given.
