Danny is looking for a great buddy! I had the pleasure of meeting him and his mum; I left feeling very inspired by them both. Danny has cerebral palsy, developmental delay, microcephaly and learning difficulties. He communicates very well non-verbally; when he is tired he will be quiet, if he is happy he makes lovely upbeat noises, and when he is frustrated or sad you will know.

When he arrives home the first thing he likes is to have his outdoor shoes and AFOs removed and his house shoes put on. He then gets out of his wheelchair and is helped into his walker; he is pretty nifty at this manoeuvre! Danny can move through the house freely, but needs close supervision as he tends to knock into things and put things in his mouth. When he is ready, Danny sits down to have his yoghurt and a drink. He has a standing frame at home, which he needs to be encouraged to use. Danny likes to watch T.V; ‘Mr Tumble’, Night Garden’ are just some of his favourites. He loves loud noises; a real bonus for him would be a buddy who isn’t afraid to do silly things and importantly to make him laugh. Danny also loves being out and about; public transport, parks and anywhere there is a buzz. Dinner is at 6.00pm, (Danny is at his most happy when routine stays the same), and then slowly and gently Danny is helped to get ready for bed by 8.30pm. Danny really does not like having his teeth brushed so buddy and mum will join forces! During weekends and holidays, lots of interesting and stimulating activities should be set up; the family are hoping to have an adapted vehicle in place in the coming months so that further afield trips can be planned.

During school term time this role is runs over split shifts, two days a week, Thursdays and Fridays 7.00am – 9.00am / 3.30pm – 9.00pm and 1pm – 9pm on Sundays. During the school holidays shifts are Thursdays and Fridays 9am – 9pm and Sundays 1pm – 9pm

This is an exciting time ahead for both Danny and his mum and a fantastic opportunity for new staff joining them. Training will be given within the school regarding therapy programmes, Paediatric first aid training and ongoing supervision.  There is more detailed information available when you reach SNAP interview stage. Please call Jim at SNAP who was warmly welcomed by both mum and Danny.
